School safety has been brought to the attention of school districts around the nation. The need for safety in a world which requires more security measures has been answered by the West Memphis School District. These senseless acts of violence have parents and teachers concerned and wondering if the schools are safe. The district wants to inform everyone that our campuses are safe and secure inside and out. Sky Cop cameras monitor the outside surrounding areas. Inside every building there is an extensive system of cameras to monitor hallways and entrances.
In addition, each school has a School Resource Officer (SRO) on each of the district's campuses. The SROs, in a working agreement between the school district and the West Memphis Police Department, are trained and experienced police officers. Having trained officers at each campus provides peace of mind for the administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community. When the students see our officers around each school, they know them as good people and not people they should fear.
Meet our SROs: Ashley Winkfield, Bragg Elementary School; Brandon Hampton, Academies of West Memphis; Briana Scott, Wonder Jr. High School; Devonte Little, Maddux Elementary School; Edward Mitchell, Richland Elementary School; Manuel Borjon, Jackson-Wonder Elementary School; Roy Davis, Academies of West Memphis; Roy Harness, Faulk Elementary School; Treasure Gaither, West Jr. High School; and Yolanda James, Weaver Elementary School.
